eMarketer is predicting that advertisers will spend $80 million on podcast advertisements in 2006. "The nature of the audience and strong growth in its numbers have already driven major brands to invest in podcast-based promotion," said eMarketer's Mike Chapman. "More advertising and sponsorship will inevitably follow, as evidenced by the sprouting up of several companies dedicated to facilitating podcast advertising and measuring its effectiveness."

Video Podcast Introduces Student Films to the

sfs_tv.jpgA new video podcast highlights the work of upcoming film makers from around the world. SFS TV, the Student Filmmakers Showcase, is devoted to showcasing student short films. We re treating SFS TV like what it is, a hybrid between television and a small format vodcast, explains Executive Producer and creator Juan Garcia. SFS TV will be consistent in the delivery of weekly episodes and will feature a professional look. Most of the programming available now looks amateurish, or is geared only to a technology savvy audience. While programs like Photoshop TV are well produced, they only hit a niche audience. SFS TV will have something for everyone.

Let's Help People Get Started With

Commentary: Elle Webb Doc Searls, an influential blogger and one of the authors of The Cluetrain Manifesto, thinks it's time for radios to "archive programs as podcasts for the same reason newspapers and magazines should save stories as Web pages." Radio stations around the world are creating content constantly that is heard once and then forgotten. While many radio shows are disposable, others feature interviews, music performances and news events that are currently unavailable to podcast listeners around the world. This is a loss to radio stations; they could be gaining listeners via the Internet, and gaining additional revenue through podcast sponsorships. Having good content disappear is also a loss to Internet users, who are missing out on a wealth of interesting content that is simply unavailable.

According to research from Points North Group and Horowitz Associates, while 25% of Internet users are interested in watching downloaded TV shows and movies on their PCs, 38% (50% more) are interested in watching that video on their TVs. In this PC and iPod generation, consumers still want to watch TV shows and movies on a TV, whether the programs are broadcast or downloaded, said Stewart Wolpin, senior consulting analyst for Points North Group, And that s the one piece of hardware where Web-based video is not yet available.
