Reminder: Last talkcast of 2007, Sunday night at 10

Filed under: Podcasts It's your last chance this year to join the conversation on the TUAW talkcast, as we return live Sunday night at 10 pm ET for a roundup of the year's top stories and the introduction of our newest blogger. As always, you can listen in on Talkshoe (even from the widget in this post, if you like -- also downloadable as a Clearspring OS X dashboard widget) or call in on regular or VOIP lines; if you want to join in the chat, you'll need a Talkshoe account and the client app. Last week's rough-cut show has been in the Talkshoe feed for a while, but the cleaned and pressed version of Christina, Erica and me reviewing our gift lists and the week's news can also be downloaded direct or via iTunes. As mentioned last week, we're leaving the enclosures out of our normal feed for now to work around the issue some Leopard Mail.app users are having with RSS attachments; the regular podcast feed is a subset of the main feed, so for now it will remain quiet pending a Mail.app fix. Talkcast #18, tis the season for

Filed under: Podcasts Sunday night's show featured Mat Lu as our capable host and panelists Mike Schramm, Christina Warren & yours truly discussing the state of the subnotebook rumors, Apple's finances and of course our choices for holiday gift giving. You can download the show directly, pick it up in our RSS or iTunes feeds, or stream it direct from Talkshoe. Music for this week's show by Brian McRae, courtesy of the Podsafe Music Network. As noted last week, if you're reading the feed in Mail.app under Leopard, you may see a pause while the enclosure is downloaded. Unfortunately this seems to happen with any RSS enclosures and there's not much we can do about it right now -- sorry! We'll be back Sunday night at 10 for our regular weekly show, but please take note: I'll be cohosting the Typical Mac User podcast with Victor Cajiao at 8 pm ET, then scooting over to TUAW for the night shift. Please join us for both! Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

TUAW Talkcast #8: The week in

Filed under: Podcasts Our regular Sunday night talkcast featured bloggers Mat Lu and Mike Schramm, along with special guest Kai Cherry, covering the week's most popular stories (including the iPhone unlock) and bringing up a few overlooked gems. We've changed production tech for this show, going with Audio Hijack and Skype prior to bridging into the live TalkShoe session, so I hope the final product reflects the new approach. The show clocks in at 28 MB and 41 minutes; you can download it directly here, or pick it up in our RSS & iTunes feeds (the show is also streamable over at Talkshoe). The fine folks who joined us live got a bonus 20 minute aftershow, including more tips and tricks plus a selection of 80s hit songs. One correction to make: I misattributed CNET's walkthrough of the tvrss.net/Miro combination for television downloads to Wired (not to mention that I said tvrss.com instead of .net... sorry!). If you hear other gaffes please let me know. We'll have a guest host this Sunday night and more fun for all, so please join us at 9pm Eastern; we look forward to hearing you. TUAW Talkcast #2: Inside

Filed under: Podcasts Here's your chance to relive last week's product introductions from the perspective of four of your favorite bloggers. Last Thursday's live talkcast features a roundtable chat with Scott McNulty, David Chartier, Chris Ullrich & yours truly discussing the new iMacs, iLife '08, and iWork with some surprise guests. The MP3 download is available here, in our RSS & iTunes feed and direct from Talkshoe (download or streaming). Our apologies for the audio quality on this one; we had some gain issues that took a few minutes to sort out. We'll be sure to have all our mics in a row for this Thursday night: same bat time, same bat channel. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Thursday night 9:30 ET: TUAW talkcast the

Filed under: Podcasts If you joined us for our first live talkcast last week, you heard an earful about the iPhone experiences of our intrepid crew, and many of you were able to join in with your comments and questions via the magic of the Talkshoe platform. We had so much fun, we're doing it again this week. Join us Thursday evening at 9:30 pm ET for a half-hour or so of conversation about -- hmm, I dunno -- we'll come up with something -- with bloggers David Chartier, Scott McNulty, and Chris Ullrich. To participate, you'll need to sign up at Talkshoe ahead of time and (if you want to be able to join the text chat or ask live questions) download the Java client. If you aren't at your computer, you can still call in with any phone or VoIP client as long as you're registered at Talkshoe. If you can't be with us live, the recorded file should be available in our iTunes feed on Friday. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

TUAW Podcast #22:

Filed under: Software, Internet Tools, Podcasts This week's podcast covers 1Passwd, the password manager and autofill tool that brings some really unique features and multi-browser support for the Keychain to the table. For just under 8 minutes I demonstrate some of the killer features of this app that go above and beyond the norm, and the whole thing weighs in at a mere 28MB. Snag it from our iTunes Store Podcast directory, this direct link or our own podcast rss feed. Enjoy! Permalink | Email this | Comments

TUAW Video Podcast: iMac Core Duo, Part

Filed under: iMac, Podcasts vodcast_logoHere's part two of my video podcast on the new iMac, and this one is super-sized. It is both the longest and largest video podcast we've ever done, weighing in at close to 20 minutes and 109.7MBs in size. Here's a direct link to the file [ctrl click and save to disk] or you can grab it in the iTMS here. In the first two minutes, I boot the iMac, then I race it against my wife's PowerBook. Next up, I launch a variety of programs to show you the speed of the iMac when launching Intel-ready programs. I next launch a few Rosetta programs to give you a feel of the difference. I log into World of Warcraft and have a quick look around to show you what it's like. I then take you through a mini-tour of Front Row, and end by launching a whole slew of programs simultaneously to see how the iMac holds up. I did discover a few bugs along the way, though. When I launch iMovie HD and first try to preview yesterday's video podcast fullscreen, it plays with no picture and only audio. I stop and then replay it and it works. Also, while navigating to an episode of Lost in Front Row, Front Row totally froze on me. I had to option Apple esc to force it to quit. Additionally, while editing the video podcast in iMovie, I noticed that certain transitions caused audio to jump over from the beginning of the project, so I ultimately went sans transitions. Needless to say, there are some slight quirks. Check it out. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

The Best Podcast Hosting

If AudioAcrobat resembles HipCast, it's because both services share a common technical infrastructure. The slightly more expensive AudioAcrobat does not share all of HipCast's easy blogging features, but it does carry a few unique benefits. For example, users can give out a "guest line" phone number that allows podcast listeners to leave reactions as voice mail messages that can be incorporated into podcast
